JJörn A. Buss is the lead Partner for Oliver Wyman's Detroit office and has 22 years of experience consulting and working in the automotive industry.

In his current role, he addresses global enterprise, product and technology strategies with a focus on business turnaround and transformation for the on- and off-highway transportation and general manufacturing industries. Jörn’s focus extends into suppliers, PassCar Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), commercial vehicles, powersports and off-highway for the automotive vertical, and industrial and component manufacturers for the manufacturing vertical. He also chairs Marsh & McLennan’s global Automotive & Manufacturing industry team.

Jörn is co-author of Oliver Wyman’s 2018 global FAST 2030 (Future Automotive Industry Structure) Study, developed jointly with the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry) and its global members. Performed every five years, the study functions as the core reference for VDA members’ business strategy development, in particular automotive suppliers.

He has also authored and co-authored various other industry-relevant studies, from the 2017 “eMobility 2035“ study to white papers on “Organizational Effectiveness of Suppliers,” “Management of Obsolescence,” “Autonomous Driving” and the “Talent Challenge of Suppliers.”

Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Jörn held positions with Audi and Porsche, followed by management consulting engagements at Roland Berger – Strategy Consultants in Detroit. He also spent more than eight years as a global VP with Ricardo, a leading transportation industry engineering and management consulting firm.

Jörn holds an MBA from Boston University and a Master’s in Management and Industrial Engineering (Dipl. Wirtschaftsingenieur) from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany and speaks fluent German and English.
