Head of Public Sector, Asia Pacific, Guy Carpenter

Michael Schwarz, Managing Director, was appointed as Guy Carpenter’s Head of Public Sector Asia-Pacific in 2018. In this role he works closely with governments, development banks and the re/insurance industry to help the Asian public sector in better managing the various risks it faces.

Prior to joining Guy Carpenter he held various positions at Swiss Re in Zurich and Hong Kong, where he co-established the reinsurer’s Global Partnerships Division in Asia, among others, and where he led a number of innovative transactions in different lines of business such as natural catastrophe-, agriculture, micro-insurance or bank trade- and infrastructure finance. Michael also (co-)authored various expert publications on risk-transfer partnerships, disaster risk insurance/-financing and microinsurance.

Michael started his professional career at Deutsche Bank and gathered first P&C insurance expertise at Allianz. He is also a founder of Asiability Group an independent consulting firm. He holds a master’s degree in Chinese Studies, Political Sciences and Psychology of Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich, Germany, complemented by overseas studies at National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei.
